The Senate’s “Big Beautiful Bill” is Very Bad for People with Disabilities
Last week, the House passed The One Big Beautiful Bill that hurt disabled people. Now the Senate has passed their own version of The One Big Beautiful Bill and it is even worse. Here is a link to the almost 1000 page bill.
This bill takes away food, healthcare, school help, and other things that people with disabilities need to live. It will make many disabled people poor, sick, and alone.
The One Big Beautiful Bill is now sent back to The House of Representatives, sometimes called the Congress to vote for it. If it passes, then President Donald Trump will sign it into law. This WILL be very very bad for people with disabilities.
Here is what the Senate bill does:
Food Help
- Makes it harder for people to get food stamps if they can’t work. Many disabled people cannot work but might lose their food.
- Makes rules so some people with disabilities cannot get help with their heating or internet costs.
- Stops some immigrants with disabilities from getting food stamps.
Healthcare
- Makes it easier for states to kick people off Medicaid if they do not fill out forms fast enough.
- Changes rules so people with a house may lose Medicaid and be forced into a nursing home or lose their home.
- Makes some immigrants with disabilities lose Medicaid.
- Cuts money for important services like home care that help disabled people stay in their own homes.
- Forces some people on Medicaid to work or volunteer, or they will lose their healthcare. This is bad for people who cannot work.
Medicare
- Stops some disabled people under 65 from getting Medicare.
School & Student Loans
- Makes student loans cost more for disabled people who cannot work and had their loans erased.
- Limits money for college for students with disabilities.
- Punishes colleges if their students do not make enough money after school. Many disabled people earn less because of unfair treatment.
Assistive Tools
- Gives very little money for tools that help disabled people live and work.
Neighborhood & Environment
- Stops money for fixing sidewalks, roads, and crossings that help disabled people get around.
- Cuts money to help clean the air and water. Bad air and water hurt disabled people the most.
What Does This Mean?
This bill will take away food, healthcare, education, and other help that people with disabilities need. It will make life much harder. People could lose their homes, their health, and their freedom.
