The One Big Beautiful Bill title sounds nice, but it is not. It will take away important things that many disabled people need. Here’s what is wrong with the bill:
Cuts to Help at Home
Some disabled people need helpers to stay in their homes. The bill cuts this help. Without it, they may have to move into institutions.
Harder to Get Food Help
The bill makes it harder to get food stamps (SNAP). Many disabled people cannot work full-time. Without food stamps, they could go hungry.
Less Health Coverage
The bill makes it harder to get Medicaid help after a health emergency. Some people don’t know they need care until they are very sick. Now, they may not get the help they need in time.
Higher Medicaid Costs
The bill allows states to charge more for Medicaid. Many disabled people can’t pay extra. They might lose important health care.
Cuts to Immigrant Care
The bill takes away Medicaid from some legal immigrants who cannot show papers fast enough. This will hurt disabled children and older people.
Cuts to School Help
The bill cuts money that helps schools support disabled students. Services like speech therapy and classroom aides may go away.
Weaker Disability Rights
The bill makes it harder to fight back if a place is not accessible. This weakens the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Fewer Job Programs
The bill takes away programs that help disabled people get and keep jobs.
Cuts to Long-Term Care
The bill makes it harder to get long-term care. It also cuts choices for staying in the community. More people may be forced into institutions.
Why This Matters
This bill will make life harder for disabled people. It will hurt their health, food, schooling, jobs, and independence.
We must ask lawmakers: What in this bill helps disabled people? How does it help their state?
